On Location!
The type of photography we give our clients is called “lifestyle”. This means that instead of being plonked in front of a plain background in a studio, we climb into our wellies and go to one of the stunning locations this area has right on its doorstep! Lifestyle photography is a current, contemporary style of portraiture, where our clients can have a great time walking in gorgeous surroundings, kids don’t get bored, climbing trees and playing in the leaves, and we get fantastic lighting to create stunning photographs.
Have a nosey at the photographs below to help you choose where you want your lifestyle photo shoot. Or, you can choose your own location!
Osmaston Village
Osmaston is one of our favourite, gorgeous spots for a shoot. A short walk around the village would be ideal for very young children, perhaps feeding the ducks if they make an appearance in the pond, dry stone walls, little lanes to walk down, a bright red telephone box and little arches to peep through. If you’re feeling a bit more energetic, the Osmaston – Shirley walk can be done with some great shots around the old water mill. Osmaston is situated just off the A52 road between Ashbourne and Derby.
Ilam
Ilam is a gorgeous, tiny village, just through Dovedale. It has the most beautiful architecture in Ilam Hall, which is actually a youth hostel! There is a lovely walk to do if you have any energy left after your shoot and a great coffee shop for some much needed energy refuelling!
Many of our clients ask if Dovedale would be good for a shoot and whilst the scenery there is amazing, it isn’t the best place to take photographs as there are no specific, interesting features and it’s very open, which isn’t suitable for good lighting.
Chatsworth House
Most people, certainly those from around Derbyshire will be more than familiar with Chatsworth House and its stunning grounds. Perhaps you’ve never had a fantastic day out with a photo shoot there though? We do have permission to do shoots in the actual house gardens (we still have to pay though!), or you can just be photographed in the huge state grounds?
Milldale
Milldale is another perfect place for a lifestyle shoot. There are so many specific spots that are great for a photograph, little moss covered steps, the bridge, the huge rolling hills, the river with duck feeding, huge trees with big, gnarly roots to sit on and dry stone walls to rest on with an ice cream. After your shoot you can relax with a drink or a bite to eat from Polly’s Cottage, where Sally will serve you much needed refreshments from her kitchen window!
Milldale is on the road towards Buxton, approximately 10-15 mins from Ashbourne town centre.
Ashbourne Park
Ashbourne Park is another lovely location. It’s large enough to have a shoot without feeling uncomfortable and “on show”! There are plenty of different areas to take some great photographs, the bandstand, benches, little paths, huge trees and the war memorial makes a really great peeking hole for little ones!
The park is situated right in the town centre, with plenty of parking around and cafe’s for afterwards!
Babies on Location…
If you have a toddler or baby, you may think it isn’t suitable to have an outdoor shoot. As long as your baby can sit up, we’d still recommend an outdoor lifestyle shoot, look at the photographs below to see why! If you have a newborn, of course its better to have the shoot at your own home.
